Morzine
Morzine is ideally situated in the centre of the vast Portes du Soleil region of the French Alps. The traditional wooden chalets and old stone buildings give it a unique charm and appeal.
The town has an excellent selection of shops, open until early evening. If you’re after some après ski away from the chalet, there is a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and two nightclubs to keep you entertained.
If you don’t ski or would prefer a day off from all that exercise, there are plenty of other options. You can walk around the stunning Lac Montriond; visit the weekly local market on Wednesday morning or watch the town’s ice hockey team who play there each week as part of the French national league.
Further afield are Annecy, Chamonix and Geneva – all located within one and half hours drive from Morzine.
St Jean d’Aulps
Located 5 minutes down the road from Morzine, is the charming village of St Jean d’Aulps. It is surrounded by superb scenery and is smaller and quieter than Morzine, making St Jean d’Aulps an ideal destination for families. The village has a wide range of amenities including a bank, post office, restaurants, bar and a small supermarket.
It also benefits from having its own ski resort, La Grande Terche, served by 16 ski lifts and 34km of ski runs. It offers the skier very majestic scenery and is less crowded than other resorts, and therefore does not suffer from long lift queues.
resorts, and therefore does not suffer from long lift queues.
Les Gets
Les Gets is a friendly resort, located 6km from its larger neighbour Morzine and linked by the Pleney lifts. The ski pistes either side of the valley run straight into the centre of the village, making the slopes very easy to access and adding to the wonderful atmosphere. Les Gets has been voted Best Family Resort in the world by both the Sunday Telegraph and the Independent newspapers, but in fact it has excellent facilities for a whole range of holiday makers.
