Ski-ing
The Portes du Soleil is a huge ski area encompassing 13 villages, 650 km of marked piste & 360 lifts. Each village has it’s own unique ski-ing. The Morzine/les Gets is an intermediates paradise. There are lots of wide tree lined runs & frequent bars to stop in.
The ski-ing in Avoriaz is extremely varied, ranging from the challenging blacks of the Haut Forts to the intermediate bowl of La Chavanette. For beginners the tree lined runs down from Avoriaz to Les Lindarets are ideal.
Chalet is easily accessed from Les Lindarets via the new 6 man chair. This area is generally quieter than the main Avoriaz sector, and as the area is north facing usually has excellent snow conditions.
Les Croset is basically one big bowl. The area can be accessed from the top of Mosette lift & also via the infamous Swiss Wall. The Grand Paradise is a wonderful run down to Champery due to the fantastic scenery.
Off Piste
There is an immense amount of off-piste ski-ing to be had in the Portes du Soleil area.
Most of the routes are well away from marked pistes & we highly recommend you take the advice of local experts & employ an instructor should you wish to explore.
However, there are 2 snow parks in Avoriaz, Le Fornet & Les Crozats, which are un-pisted bowls but are still patrolled.
Snowboarding
Avoriaz is home to the Burton Snowboard park, the Stash, and 3 additional snowboard parks catering for all abilities. There is also one of the largest half pipes in Europe. The Super Pipe in Avoriaz is frequently used to host competitions throughout the winter months.
Other Activities
For those looking for alternative activities, you can partake in ice skating on one of the two rinks in Morzine, cross country ski-ing around Lac Montriond, sledging, snow shoeing, ice diving and paragliding.
